The Aprilia SRV 850, a sport-touring scooter launched in 2012, was Aprilia's ambitious attempt to capture a niche market segment. This machine aimed to combine the agility and practicality of a scooter with the long-distance comfort and performance of a sport touring motorcycle. Powering the SRV 850 was a 90-degree V-twin engine displacing 850cc, producing a claimed 76 horsepower and 58.8 lb-ft of torque. This engine was paired with a six-speed transmission, offering a smooth power delivery and good fuel efficiency. Aprilia's SRV 850 was designed to be a comfortable and practical scooter, featuring a spacious seat, large storage compartments, and a windscreen offering decent wind protection. Despite its innovative design and impressive specifications, the SRV 850 faced several challenges in the market. Its high price point, compared to more conventional touring motorcycles, and the relatively limited availability of parts and service hampered its popularity. Furthermore, the SRV 850's unique design and riding position might not have resonated with a broader audience, who preferred traditional motorcycle setups. Production of the SRV 850 ceased in 2015, leaving a legacy as an intriguing and ambitious experiment within the scooter segment. However, it wasn't able to achieve the widespread success and recognition of some of Aprilia's other models, such as the RSV4 superbike.
