The BMW R850 R and R850C were air-cooled boxer twin motorcycles produced by BMW Motorrad from 1996 to 2004. The R850 R was a naked roadster, while the R850C was a cruiser-style motorcycle. Both models were powered by a 850 cc (51.9 cu in) boxer engine, which produced 68 hp (51 kW) at 6,500 rpm and 64 lb⋅ft (87 N⋅m) of torque at 4,500 rpm. The R850 R and R850C were known for their smooth and powerful engines, as well as their comfortable riding position. The R850 R is often considered to be a predecessor of the R1200 R, which was launched in 2006. The R850 R and R850C shared many features, including a steel frame, telescopic front forks, and a single-sided swingarm. However, the R850C featured a more upright riding position, a lower seat height, and a larger windscreen than the R850 R. Both models were available with a variety of options, including ABS brakes, heated grips, and a luggage rack. The R850 R was praised for its handling and performance, while the R850C was lauded for its relaxed and comfortable riding experience. Despite their popularity, production of both models was discontinued in 2004, replaced by the R1150 R, R1150 RS, and R1150 RT. The R850 R and R850C remain popular choices for riders seeking a reliable and comfortable motorcycle, making repair manuals like the "BMW R850 R850C 2000 Service Repair Workshop Manual" an invaluable resource for owners and enthusiasts.
