The Cadillac XLR is a luxury roadster that was produced by General Motors from 2004 to 2009. The XLR was positioned as a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, the BMW Z8, and the Porsche Boxster. It was the first Cadillac to feature a retractable hardtop since the 1950s, which allowed it to offer the open-air experience of a convertible while also being a practical choice for year-round driving. The XLR was built on a modified version of the GM Sigma platform, which also underpinned the Chevrolet Corvette. This platform offered a lightweight and rigid chassis, providing excellent handling and performance. The Cadillac XLR was powered by a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine, producing 320 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque. This engine was paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission that sent power to the rear wheels. The XLR's performance was impressive for its time, with a 0-60 mph time of around 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Despite the performance, the XLR was also known for its luxurious interior, featuring leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, a premium sound system, and a host of other amenities. The XLR was a relatively rare car, with only around 15,000 units produced over its six-year lifespan. This limited production run, coupled with its stylish design and performance capabilities, has contributed to the XLR's current status as a collectible vehicle.
