The Dodge Stratus, a mid-size sedan produced by the Chrysler Corporation from 1995 to 2006, played a pivotal role in the company's revival during the 1990s. Targeting the popular but competitive family car market, the Stratus aimed to strike a balance between affordability, comfort, and practicality. Its sleek, contemporary design, inspired by the Chrysler Concorde and LHS, offered a welcome departure from the somewhat conservative styling of its predecessors. Underneath, the Stratus rode on a platform shared with the Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze, featuring a MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear suspension. This setup provided a comfortable ride, while still delivering decent handling for its time. Engine options spanned a range of four-cylinder and V6 choices, providing a good balance of performance and fuel efficiency. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was the base option, followed by a more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 2.5-liter V6. Later models saw the addition of a more powerful 2.7-liter V6. The Stratus offered a range of trims, from the more basic SE and ES to the sportier R/T. The latter featured a tuned suspension, larger wheels, and a more aggressive exterior design, offering drivers a more engaging experience. Despite its strong start, the Stratus faced stiff competition from newer and more refined models from its rivals. However, it remained a popular choice for those seeking a value-oriented sedan with a comfortable ride and functional cabin.
