The Triumph Vitesse was a sporty saloon car produced by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and later by British Leyland from 1962 to 1971. It was essentially a high-performance version of the Triumph Herald and was initially available as a two-door saloon, with a four-door version being added to the lineup in 1966. The Vitesse shared the Herald's unibody construction, but it was fitted with a more powerful engine, a 1147 cc four-cylinder unit that was originally developed for the Triumph Spitfire. This engine, known as the "1147" or "1148" depending on the specific model, produced 65 horsepower in its initial form. The Vitesse also received a number of other performance-enhancing upgrades, including a stiffer suspension, wider tires, and a more aerodynamic body.

The Vitesse was a popular car among enthusiasts, particularly for its combination of performance and affordability. It offered a fun driving experience with its lively engine and nimble handling qualities. Despite its sporting intentions, the Vitesse was still a practical car for everyday use, offering comfortable seating for four passengers and a decent amount of cargo space. While the Vitesse enjoyed a successful run, production ended in 1971, with the arrival of the new Triumph Dolomite, which took on the sporting mantle within the Triumph lineup. Today, the Vitesse remains a sought-after classic car, appreciated for its performance, styling, and historical significance within the British motor industry.
