The Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ, while sharing a common lineage, represent distinct chapters in the history of Lincoln's mid-size luxury sedan offerings. The Zephyr, produced from 2006 to 2007, served as a reimagining of the traditional Lincoln brand, aiming for a sportier and more youthful appeal. It was built upon the Ford Fusion platform and featured a sleek, coupe-like profile, sharp lines, and a spacious, well-appointed interior. The Zephyr came equipped with a variety of powerful V6 engines, including a 3.0L Duratec and a 3.5L Duratec, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Despite its bold styling and capable engine options, the Zephyr struggled to capture the attention of luxury car buyers, and its production was halted in 2007.

Following the discontinuation of the Zephyr, Lincoln introduced the MKZ in 2008. The MKZ, a significant departure from its predecessor, adopted a more refined and understated design language. It offered a range of engine choices, including a 3.5L Duratec V6, a 2.0L EcoBoost four-cylinder, and a hybrid powertrain combining a 2.5L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. The MKZ presented a compelling blend of luxury, technology, and driving dynamics, becoming a staple in Lincoln's lineup. Its spacious interior, advanced infotainment system, and smooth ride provided a comfortable and sophisticated driving experience. The MKZ went through several facelifts over its lifespan, receiving updates to its exterior styling, interior design, and powertrain options. The model was discontinued in 2020, ceding its place to the Lincoln Corsair. However, the MKZ's legacy lives on as a testament to Lincoln's commitment to offering a diverse range of luxury sedans that cater to a variety of tastes and preferences.
