The Austin Healey Sprite, affectionately known as the "Frogeye" due to its distinctive, bulbous headlights, is a small and sporty roadster manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) between 1958 and 1971. Designed by Donald Healey and launched in 1958, the Sprite was a smaller and more affordable version of the popular Austin-Healey 100/6, aimed at a younger and more budget-conscious audience. Power came from a 948cc 4-cylinder engine, initially coupled to a 4-speed manual transmission, offering nimble handling and a spirited performance for its size. The Sprite's simplicity and lightweight design, combined with its charming looks and affordable price tag, made it a popular choice for enthusiasts and everyday drivers alike.

The Austin Healey Sprite quickly established itself as a successful and enduring model, undergoing several updates and improvements throughout its production run. These included the addition of disc brakes in 1961, the introduction of a larger 1098cc engine in 1964, and the adoption of a more refined and luxurious interior in 1965. The Sprite went through several stylistic revisions as well, including the adoption of a more conventional grille and headlight design in 1961, which came to be known as the "MkII." The Sprite's production was ultimately discontinued in 1971, replaced by the slightly larger and more powerful Austin Healey Sprite Mk IV, better known as the "Midget." While these models shared many similarities, the original "Frogeye" Sprite remains a cherished classic, sought after by enthusiasts who appreciate its simple design, engaging driving experience, and undeniable charm.
