The Ford Aerostar is a compact minivan produced by Ford from 1986 to 1997. The first-generation Aerostar was introduced for the 1986 model year as a replacement for the Ford LTD station wagon, offering a more modern and efficient alternative. It gained popularity for its spacious interior and versatile cargo space, perfect for families and businesses. The Aerostar was available in various trim levels, ranging from basic work vans to luxurious passenger models. Its design featured a distinct boxy shape, which was not only practical but also offered generous headroom and cargo capacity. Power came from a variety of engines including a 2.3-liter four-cylinder, a 2.8-liter V6, and a 4.0-liter V6. Although the Aerostar was popular, its safety features were basic and its handling was not as sharp as some of its competitors. It also suffered from some reliability issues, particularly with its transmission.

The second-generation Aerostar was launched for the 1990 model year. While the new model retained its boxy shape, its design featured a more rounded profile and a more aerodynamic front end. It also received a new, more powerful 3.0-liter V6 engine. Despite these improvements, sales of the Aerostar began to decline in the early 1990s as more fuel-efficient and technologically advanced minivans entered the market. The popularity of the Aerostar was further diminished by a major redesign of the Ford Windstar. The Aerostar was discontinued in 1997. Despite its shortcomings, the Aerostar was a successful vehicle for Ford, selling over 1.3 million units during its 12-year production run. It remains fondly remembered as a practical and versatile vehicle that served the needs of many families and businesses.
