The Renault Clio V6 Sport, a limited-production hot hatch produced from 1998 to 2003, was a radical departure from the standard Clio model. This car was the brainchild of Renault Sport, the company's performance division, and brought the thrills of a mid-engine sports car to the compact hatchback segment. The V6 Sport was powered by a 2.9L naturally aspirated V6 engine, developed from the Clio's predecessor, the Renault 19. This 24-valve engine, nestled behind the seats, produced 227 hp and 214 Nm of torque. While the power figures might not seem excessive today, the V6 Sport's low weight (just 1,148 kg) and sharp handling made it a true track weapon. It could go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h. The V6 Sport was a limited production vehicle, with only 2,887 units produced over its lifespan, making it a coveted collectible today.

Beyond the performance, the V6 Sport stood out with its distinctive design. The bulging rear end, housing the V6 engine, was a clear departure from the standard Clio, while the wide track and aggressive front end further accentuated its sporty character. The interior was also tailored for performance, featuring Recaro bucket seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a sporty instrument cluster. However, the V6 Sport was not without its drawbacks. The cramped cabin, limited rear visibility, and somewhat harsh ride were compromises inherent to its mid-engine layout. Despite these shortcomings, the Clio V6 Sport remains a fascinating example of Renault's audacity in pushing the boundaries of the compact hatchback segment. It was a vehicle that defied expectations, delivering raw performance and a unique driving experience that left a lasting impression on the automotive world.
