Mercedes A140 A160 A160CDI A170CDI A190 A210 1997-2004 Manual
This comprehensive workshop service repair manual covers the Mercedes A140, A160, A160CDI, A170CDI, A190, and A210 models produced between 1997 and 2004. It provides detailed information on every aspect of these vehicles, from routine maintenance procedures to complex repairs. The manual includes detailed instructions, diagrams, and specifications to guide you through every step of the repair process. You'll find information on engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, bodywork, and much more. This manual is an essential resource for both professional mechanics and DIY enthusiasts who want to work on their own Mercedes A-Class.

The Mercedes-Benz W168, commonly known as the A-Class, debuted in 1997 and was the first generation of this compact hatchback model. It represented a significant departure for Mercedes, as it targeted a younger, more budget-conscious audience with its smaller size and more affordable price point compared to their traditional luxury vehicles. The A140, A160, A160CDI, A170CDI, A190, and A210 variants, all produced between 1997 and 2004, were offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines. While the A140 and A160 were powered by naturally aspirated 1.4L and 1.6L petrol engines, the A160CDI and A170CDI featured turbocharged 1.7L diesel engines – a first for a Mercedes-Benz. The A190 and A210 were fueled by more powerful 1.9L and 2.1L petrol engines, respectively, offering more performance but at a higher price. The W168 A-Class was sold with manual transmissions across all engine variants, providing drivers a more engaging driving experience. The W168 A-Class offered a practical and spacious interior, despite its compact exterior dimensions. It was built on a front-wheel-drive platform, a departure from the rear-wheel-drive setup of most Mercedes vehicles at the time. This decision enabled the car to offer a larger passenger and cargo space within its smaller footprint. However, the A-Class faced controversy in its initial years due to its tendency to roll over in extreme situations. This issue was addressed in subsequent model years with the introduction of ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and other safety upgrades. While it may not have been the most powerful or luxurious Mercedes-Benz, the W168 A-Class was a significant step for the brand in terms of expanding its reach and attracting a broader audience. It offered a practical, fuel-efficient, and relatively affordable entry point into the Mercedes-Benz world, paving the way for the future success of the A-Class lineup.
