The Mitsubishi FTO, short for "For The Open", was a sporty coupe produced by Mitsubishi Motors from 1994 to 1998. This two-door, front-engine, front-wheel drive coupe was designed to be a fun and engaging car to drive, and it offered a unique combination of performance and practicality. The FTO was built on Mitsubishi's "Project Galaxy" platform, which was also used for the Galant and Legnum models. This platform offered a robust and reliable foundation, while the FTO's sporting aspirations were further emphasized with a range of performance-focused features.

Under the hood, the FTO was available with a selection of powerful engines, starting with a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter 4G93 engine producing 145 horsepower. A more thrilling option was the 2.0-liter 6A12 engine, available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. The naturally aspirated 6A12 produced 165 horsepower, while the turbocharged version—famously known as the "GPX"—boasted an impressive 205 horsepower. The FTO was further equipped with a choice of transmissions, including a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. This combination of potent engines and responsive transmissions ensured the FTO offered a spirited driving experience, making it a popular choice among enthusiasts.
