The Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 SQ series JA series is a mid-sized SUV that was produced by Suzuki from 2001 to 2005. It shares its mechanical underpinnings with the Grand Vitara (also known as the Escudo in some markets). The XL7 was a longer, seven-passenger version of the Grand Vitara, specifically designed for families who needed more space and versatility. It featured a larger body, a longer wheelbase, and a third-row seat, allowing it to comfortably accommodate up to seven passengers. While the Grand Vitara was available with both three-door and five-door body styles, the XL7 was only offered in the five-door configuration. The XL7 was powered by a 2.7-liter V6 engine, producing 185 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. This engine was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and power was sent to all four wheels through a part-time four-wheel drive system. The XL7 offered a comfortable and spacious interior, with standard features such as air conditioning, power windows, and a CD player. The XL7, however, was criticized for its lackluster performance and handling compared to other SUVs in its class. Despite its shortcomings, the XL7 was a popular choice for families looking for a spacious and affordable SUV. It also offered a rugged and capable off-road platform, making it suitable for light off-road adventures. The Grand Vitara XL7 was discontinued in 2005, and was replaced by the Suzuki XL7, which was based on the Chevrolet Equinox platform.
