The 2006 Mitsubishi Raider is a mid-size pickup truck that marked the return of the Raider nameplate to the North American market after a 17-year absence. Built on the same platform as the Dodge Dakota, the Raider aimed to compete with other popular mid-size trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. It offered a choice of two engines: a 3.7-liter V6 producing 210 horsepower and 235 lb-ft of torque, or a potent 4.7-liter V8 generating 230 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Both engines could be paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, while a six-speed manual was offered on the V6. The Raider came in various trim levels, including the base ST, the mid-range S, and the top-of-the-line SL, each offering varying levels of features and amenities.

Despite boasting a rugged exterior design, a spacious cabin, and a capable powertrain, the Raider failed to capture the same market share as its competitors. A combination of factors contributed to its lack of success, including a lack of brand recognition in the truck segment, high pricing compared to competitors, and a relatively low towing capacity. Production of the Raider ceased in 2009 after only three model years, leaving a legacy of a truck with strong potential that ultimately fell short of expectations. Today, the 2006 Mitsubishi Raider remains a decent option for those seeking a reliable and capable mid-size truck, but its limited availability and parts supply can pose challenges for owners.
