The Citroën AX was a supermini car produced by the French automaker Citroën from 1986 to 1997. It was known for its light and agile handling, compact size, and innovative features. The AX was launched in 1986 as a successor to the Citroën LN and LNA. It was designed by Italian designer Marcello Gandini, and featured a distinctive wedge-shaped body, with a large glass area and a relatively low drag coefficient. The AX was available in a range of body styles, including a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback, and a commercial van variant. The model was particularly popular in Europe, where it was praised for its fuel efficiency and affordability.

The Citroën AX was available with a range of petrol engines, ranging from 1.0 liters to 1.4 liters in capacity. A 1.4-liter diesel engine was also offered. The AX was known for its nimble handling thanks to its light weight and short wheelbase. It was also equipped with McPherson struts in the front and a torsion beam rear suspension, which provided a comfortable ride and good handling. The model's innovative features included a "tilt-away" steering column, which allowed for easier entry and exit, and a unique "Magic Doors" system that allowed for easy access to the rear seats in the five-door version. The AX was a successful model for Citroën, selling over 1.2 million units during its production run. It was replaced by the Citroën Saxo in 1996.
