The Ford Freestyle, produced from 2005 to 2007, was a unique crossover vehicle that aimed to blend the spaciousness and versatility of an SUV with the car-like handling and fuel efficiency of a wagon. Built on the Ford Focus platform, the Freestyle offered a raised ride height, a roomy interior, and optional all-wheel drive. Unlike many other crossovers of its time, the Freestyle retained a traditional minivan-like sliding rear door configuration on the passenger side, allowing for easier access to the second row. This design was particularly appealing to families, emphasizing practicality and convenience.

Powering the Freestyle was a 2.3L Duratec four-cylinder engine producing 153 horsepower and 152 lb-ft of torque. While not exactly known for its exhilarating performance, the engine provided adequate power for everyday driving, especially with the availability of a five-speed automatic transmission. The Freestyle offered a comfortable ride, thanks to its independent suspension and well-tuned handling. Safety features included standard anti-lock brakes, traction control, and multiple airbags. Despite its innovative approach and practical features, the Freestyle's sales didn't live up to Ford's expectations. It was discontinued after only three model years due to lukewarm consumer reception and the increasing popularity of traditional SUVs and crossovers with more conventional styling and features. Nonetheless, the Ford Freestyle remains a testament to Ford's willingness to experiment and explore alternative vehicle designs in the ever-evolving automotive landscape.
