The 2006-2010 Jeep Commander XK is a mid-size SUV that was produced by Jeep from 2006 to 2010. It was based on the Mercedes-Benz W164 platform, sharing its underpinnings with the Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the Chrysler Aspen, and was designed to fill the gap between the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee in the Jeep lineup. The Commander was available in both four-door and five-door configurations, offering seating for up to seven passengers. Its rugged exterior design, inspired by the Jeep heritage, featured a boxy shape, a seven-slot grille, and a commanding presence. The Commander came equipped with a standard 3.7-liter V6 engine producing 210 horsepower, but also offered a 4.7-liter V8 generating 230 horsepower for more power. Both engines were paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, driving either the rear wheels or all four wheels via a selectable four-wheel-drive system. The interior of the Commander offered a spacious and comfortable cabin with ample cargo space. Its versatile seating arrangement allowed for different configurations to accommodate passengers and luggage. The Commander was equipped with a range of standard features, including air conditioning, power windows and locks, and an AM/FM radio. Higher trim levels, such as the Limited and Overland, offered additional amenities such as leather upholstery, heated and ventilated seats, navigation, and a premium sound system. The Commander's off-road capabilities were also impressive, thanks to its high ground clearance, four-wheel-drive system, and optional off-road tires. However, its fuel economy was relatively low, and the Commander was criticized for its handling and ride quality, which were considered somewhat clumsy and less refined compared to its rivals. Despite its shortcomings, the Jeep Commander offered a unique blend of ruggedness, versatility, and practicality, appealing to buyers seeking a spacious and capable SUV with a touch of Jeep heritage.
