The Mitsubishi i-MiEV (Innovative Mobility Electric Vehicle) was a pioneering electric car launched in 2009 and produced until 2013. This compact city car represented Mitsubishi's early foray into the electric vehicle market, aiming to provide an environmentally friendly and efficient transportation solution. Built on a modified version of the Mitsubishi Minica platform, the i-MiEV boasted a unique design with a low center of gravity and a spacious interior for its compact size. Powered by a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, it generated 64 horsepower and 133 Nm of torque, offering a range of approximately 100 kilometers on a single charge. The i-MiEV's performance was characterized by its quiet and smooth operation, providing a comfortable and eco-friendly driving experience. The i-MiEV was a testament to Mitsubishi's early commitment to electric vehicle technology. It featured a regenerative braking system that recaptured energy lost during deceleration, contributing to increased efficiency and range. The car also incorporated advanced safety features, including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), ensuring driver and passenger safety. Despite its early introduction, the i-MiEV faced challenges in the market due to its limited range, high price point, and limited charging infrastructure. However, it played a significant role in paving the way for future electric vehicle development and helped establish Mitsubishi as a leader in the EV sector. The i-MiEV was later succeeded by the i-MiEV Evolution, which addressed some of the initial shortcomings and paved the way for the current Mitsubishi electric vehicle lineup.
