The Isuzu C22NE, 22LE, and 20LE engines are a series of naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engines produced by Isuzu Motors from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. These engines are known for their simplicity, reliability, and fuel efficiency, making them popular choices for various applications, including passenger cars, light trucks, and SUVs. The C22NE, with a displacement of 2.2 liters, served as the base model, while the 22LE and 20LE were variations with slightly different displacements. All three engines featured a cast iron block and aluminum cylinder head with a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) design. They employed a multi-point fuel injection system for efficient fuel delivery and were mated to either a 4-speed or 5-speed manual transmission, or a 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmission.

The C22NE, 22LE, and 20LE engines were widely used in Isuzu vehicles like the 1st generation Rodeo, Trooper, and Amigo, as well as the Impulse and Stylus. They were also fitted in some models produced by other manufacturers like Honda and General Motors under licensing agreements. These engines have proven their durability and longevity, often exceeding 200,000 miles with proper maintenance. While not known for their high power output, their smooth operation and fuel economy made them desirable options for everyday driving. The simplicity of their design also allowed for easy maintenance and repairs, making them relatively inexpensive to own and operate. Despite being phased out of production, these engines continue to be popular among enthusiasts due to their reliability and ease of modification.
