The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV and V (also known as Evo IV and Evo V) are legendary performance cars that cemented Mitsubishi's reputation as a builder of high-performance vehicles. They were produced from 1996 to 1999 and represented the fourth and fifth generations of the Lancer Evolution lineage. Building on the success of the Evo III, these models significantly refined the formula, offering improved handling, more power, and a host of advanced technologies. The Evo IV introduced the iconic "EVO" badge and debuted a revised engine with a larger turbocharger and intercooler, pushing power output to 271 hp. It also featured a new suspension setup with revised geometry and a more rigid chassis. The Evo V further enhanced the performance with notable improvements like an active center differential (ACD), which allowed for improved traction and handling, and a Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. The S-AWC system integrated the ACD with the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control, resulting in a more responsive and controlled driving experience. Additionally, the Evo V received an upgraded engine with a larger intercooler and a revised intake manifold, increasing horsepower to 276 hp. The Evo IV and V also featured a distinct and aggressive styling, with wide bodywork, a large rear wing, and prominent air intakes. Inside, the cabin focused on practicality and performance, with supportive bucket seats, a sporty steering wheel, and a clear instrument panel. These legendary cars became a staple in rally racing and street-performance circles, gaining a devoted following that continues to this day.
