The Sunbeam Rapier and Alpine series were a range of lightweight motorcycles produced by the British manufacturer Sunbeam Motorcycles from 1957 to 1966. The Rapier series, with its models III and IV, was known for its sleek and sporty design, featuring a 250cc single-cylinder engine and a lightweight tubular frame. The Rapier III, launched in 1957, was a popular choice for commuters and young riders, thanks to its affordable price and easy handling. The later Rapier IV, introduced in 1960, saw a slight increase in engine displacement to 293cc, offering slightly more power and torque. The Rapier IV also benefited from improvements in the suspension and brakes, making it a more capable and comfortable ride.

The Alpine series, encompassing models I, II, III, and IV, offered a more robust and touring-oriented approach to motorcycling. These models were powered by 348cc and 499cc single-cylinder engines, providing ample power for long-distance rides and carrying a passenger. The Alpine I, launched in 1959, was the first model in the series and featured a comfortable riding position and a spacious luggage rack. The Alpine II (1961), III (1963), and IV (1965) saw further refinements to the engine, suspension, and brakes, resulting in a highly capable and refined motorcycle. The Alpine series became particularly popular with adventure-seeking riders, who appreciated its ability to handle rough roads and long distances. Both the Rapier and Alpine series were well-regarded for their reliability, handling, and comfort, offering a strong and enjoyable riding experience. However, the rise of Japanese motorcycle manufacturers in the 1960s, along with the shift in consumer preferences towards more powerful and technologically advanced motorcycles, ultimately led to the discontinuation of the Rapier and Alpine series in 1966.
