It is an indispensable resource for both professional mechanics and DIY enthusiasts, offering detailed instructions and technical specifications for every aspect of maintenance and repair. Whether you are a seasoned mechanic or a novice home mechanic, this manual provides the essential information needed to maintain your Volvo 850 in top condition.

The Volvo 850, launched in 1991, marked a significant departure for the Swedish automaker. It was the first Volvo to feature a transversely mounted engine and front-wheel drive, a move away from the traditional longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive configuration. The 850 was also Volvo's first car to be built on a completely new platform, internally codenamed P80. This platform, designed with safety as a top priority, featured a strong, rigid body structure and innovative safety features like the SIPS (Side Impact Protection System) and a driver's airbag. The 850's design, penned by Peter Horbury, was a sleek and modern departure from Volvo's boxy past, featuring a sporty profile and distinctive headlights. The 850 was offered in various body styles, including the standard sedan, a spacious wagon (dubbed the 850 Estate), and a sporty coupe (the 850 T-5R).

Under the hood, the 850 featured a range of powerful and efficient engines, including a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a 2.3-liter five-cylinder, and a 2.4-liter turbocharged five-cylinder. The top-of-the-line T-5R model boasted a turbocharged 2.3-liter engine producing a respectable 240 horsepower. The 850, known for its sturdy construction and high safety standards, quickly gained a reputation for reliability and longevity. It introduced innovations like the five-cylinder engine to the Volvo lineup and established a new design language for the brand. Although production ceased in 1997, the 850 remains a significant vehicle in Volvo's history, paving the way for future generations of safe and stylish cars.
