The Renault Torino GR-TSX was a mid-size car produced by the French automaker Renault from 1966 to 1971. It was originally conceived as the successor to the Renault Frégate, but the Torino ended up being a separate model, albeit sharing some technical features with the Frégate. The Torino was built on a robust platform with independent front suspension and a live rear axle. It was initially available with a choice of two petrol engines: a 1.6-liter engine producing 70 horsepower and a more powerful 1.8-liter engine delivering 88 horsepower. The Torino was marketed as a spacious and comfortable family car, emphasizing its practicality and affordability. However, it faced stiff competition from other European manufacturers like Ford and Opel, who were also dominating the mid-size car market at the time.

The Torino was offered in various body styles, including a 4-door saloon (sedan), a 2-door coupé, and a station wagon. It received a facelift in 1969, which included a redesigned front grille, updated headlights, and a new interior. Despite its overall decent performance and features, the Torino failed to achieve the commercial success Renault had anticipated. This was attributed to various factors, including a lack of innovation compared to competitors, a somewhat outdated design, and the growing popularity of smaller and more fuel-efficient cars in the early 1970s. The Torino was eventually discontinued in 1971, paving the way for the brand's focus on the more successful Renault 12 model. The Torino, though not a commercial success, remains an interesting example of Renault's efforts to compete in the demanding European mid-size car market during the 1960s.
