The Audi RS2 Avant, produced from 1994 to 1995, was a groundbreaking performance wagon that established Audi's reputation for high-performance vehicles. Developed in collaboration with Porsche, the RS2 Avant was based on the Audi 80 Avant but was vastly enhanced for speed and handling. Under the hood resided a 2.2-liter, 5-cylinder turbocharged engine, originally designed for the Audi Quattro rally car. This engine, tuned by Porsche, produced an impressive 315 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque, propelling the RS2 from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds. This made the RS2 one of the fastest production wagons of its time and a serious contender against sports cars.

Beyond the powertrain, the RS2 Avant featured a host of performance-oriented modifications. These included a lowered suspension, larger brakes, widened bodywork with flared wheel arches to accommodate wider wheels and tires, and a revised interior with sports seats and a sporty steering wheel. The RS2 Avant was a testament to Audi's engineering prowess, combining the practicality of a wagon with the thrills of a sports car. Its limited production run, with only 2,891 units ever built, and its potent performance made it an extremely sought-after collectors' item today. The RS2 Avant paved the way for Audi's subsequent high-performance "RS" models, establishing a legacy of performance and versatility that continues to this day.
