The BMW R850C and R1200C motorcycles were cruisers produced by BMW Motorrad between 1997 and 2004. These models marked a departure from BMW's traditional focus on touring and sport bikes, aiming to appeal to a wider range of riders with a more relaxed and comfortable riding experience. The R850C and R1200C featured a distinctive, low-slung design with a long wheelbase and a comfortable riding position. The R850C was powered by an 850cc air-cooled boxer twin engine, producing around 63 horsepower, while the R1200C featured a larger 1170cc engine that delivered around 79 horsepower. Both models were known for their smooth power delivery and comfortable ride, making them suitable for both long-distance cruising and commuting. The R850C and R1200C were equipped with features commonly found on cruiser motorcycles, such as a low-slung seat, forward foot controls, and a wide handlebar. Additional features included a shaft drive system for low maintenance and a smooth ride, telescopic front forks with a conventional rear swingarm suspension, and a single disc brake up front and a single disc at the rear. The R1200C also featured optional ABS. Despite their cruiser-style design, the R850C and R1200C maintained the build quality and reliability that BMW motorcycles were known for. These models became popular for their comfortable ride, laid-back styling, and the reputation of the BMW brand. However, despite the popularity and success of the R850C and R1200C, BMW ultimately decided to discontinue the cruiser models in favor of focusing on its core touring and sport bike lines.
