The BMW R1150GS is a dual-sport motorcycle that was produced by BMW Motorrad from 1999 to 2004. It is known for its versatility, ruggedness, and off-road capability, making it a popular choice for both adventure touring and daily commuting. The R1150GS is powered by a 1,130 cc (69 cu in), air-cooled, boxer twin engine that produces 90 hp (67 kW) at 7,000 rpm and 90 N⋅m (66 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm. It features a 5-speed gearbox, shaft drive, and a telescopic fork front suspension with a Paralever swingarm rear suspension. The R1150GS was lauded for its excellent handling and stability, both on and off-road.

The 1999 model was introduced with an upgraded engine design, featuring electronic fuel injection and a catalytic converter. It also introduced a new instrument cluster design. The 2001 model received significant updates, including a redesigned fuel tank, new seat, and a larger windscreen. It also introduced a new "Telelever" front suspension system, which was designed to improve handling and comfort. The 2004 model was the last year of production for the R1150GS and included a new ABS system and a new "Enduro" model trim package which offered a more off-road oriented setup. The R1150GS was a highly successful model for BMW, and its legacy continues to influence the design and development of modern adventure touring motorcycles. Its ruggedness, reliability, and versatility made it a favorite among riders of all experience levels and paved the way for the even more capable R1200GS which succeeded it.
