The BMW Z4 is a two-seater roadster, produced by German automaker BMW since 2002. The Z4 is the successor to the Z3 and has been through two distinct generations, with the third generation introduced in 2018. The first generation Z4, known internally as the E85/E86, was produced between 2002 and 2008. Designed by Chris Bangle, it featured a distinctive, swooping design with a hardtop convertible roof and a range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. The E85 and E86 models represented a significant departure from the Z3 in terms of design and performance. The Z4 was praised for its handling and driving dynamics, making it a popular choice for enthusiasts seeking a sporty and engaging driving experience. The first generation model was also available with a powerful 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine in the Z4 M model.

The second generation Z4 (E89) was launched in 2009 and offered a more modern and refined interpretation of the roadster formula. This generation Z4 was available with a wider range of engines, including four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and even a high-performance six-cylinder engine in the Z4 sDrive35is model. The E89 Z4 also featured a retractable hardtop roof that provided a more practical and refined experience for owners. The Z4's appeal for enthusiasts was further extended with the introduction of the Z4 M model, which featured a 340 horsepower inline-six engine and a host of performance modifications. The second generation Z4 remained in production until 2016, leaving a legacy of engaging performance and stylish design.
