The Vauxhall Opel Calibra is a two-door coupé that was produced by German automaker Opel, and its British sister brand Vauxhall, from 1989 to 1997. The Calibra, launched in June 1989, was designed by Erhard Schnell and was built on the same platform as the Opel Vectra. The Calibra offered a relatively sporty driving experience, with its sleek aerodynamic design and a range of powerful petrol engines. One of its most notable features was its drag coefficient of 0.26, making it the most aerodynamic production car at the time. This was achieved thanks to a carefully designed body shape, which also contributed to giving the Calibra a distinctive and stylish appearance. The Calibra's interior was well-designed and comfortable, offering decent space for two occupants. It also featured a variety of standard equipment including power windows, central locking, and a cassette player, with optional features like air conditioning and a sunroof available.

The Calibra was originally launched with a range of petrol engines, including the 1.6i, 1.8i, 2.0i, and the more powerful 2.0i 16v. In 1992, the Calibra received an update that included a new 2.5 V6 engine, offering improved performance and increased power output. In 1993, the top-of-the-line “Turbo” version was introduced, boasting a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 197 horsepower, making it a truly potent performance car. The Calibra also came with a manual transmission as standard, with a four-speed automatic gearbox available as an option. The car was praised for its handling, which was considered precise and responsive, and its performance, which was considered adequate for its class. The Vauxhall Opel Calibra was a successful car, selling over 230,000 units during its production run and achieving several awards, including the “Car of the Year” in 1990 by “Auto Express” magazine. While no longer in production, the Calibra remains a popular choice for classic car enthusiasts, particularly its turbocharged variants, and the vehicle continues to be appreciated for its sleek design, decent performance, and overall driving experience.
