The Mitsubishi 4G3 series engine is a family of four-cylinder gasoline engines produced by Mitsubishi Motors from 1978 to 2005. This robust and versatile engine series found widespread application in a variety of Mitsubishi vehicles, including the Lancer, Mirage, Colt, and Galant. The 4G3 series engines were designed with a cast-iron block and aluminum cylinder head, featuring a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) configuration. Initially, the engines were offered with a displacement of 1.2 liters, evolving over the years to encompass larger 1.3, 1.5, and 1.6-liter variants. These engines were known for their relatively simple design, reliability, and fuel efficiency.

The 4G3 series engines incorporated a number of technological advancements during their production run. Notably, the introduction of multi-point fuel injection (MPI) in the late 1980s significantly enhanced performance and fuel economy. Later iterations also featured variable valve timing (VVT) systems, further optimizing engine efficiency and power output. The 4G3 series engines were available with various transmission options, including manual, automatic, and CVT transmissions. They were widely praised for their durability and longevity, with many engines experiencing hundreds of thousands of miles without major issues. However, as with any engine, regular maintenance and proper care are crucial for optimal performance and lifespan.
