The Opel Calibra, produced from 1989 to 1997, was a sleek and sporty coupe that aimed to compete with the likes of the Honda Prelude and Toyota Celica in the European market. It was built on the same platform as the Vauxhall Cavalier (known as the Opel Vectra in Europe) and shared many components, including its engines. However, the Calibra’s striking design, with its low-slung profile, raked windshield, and aerodynamically sculpted bodywork, set it apart from its more practical sibling. It was a testament to Opel's engineering prowess, and its aerodynamic design, with a drag coefficient of just 0.26, contributed to its impressive performance and fuel efficiency.

The Calibra was available with a range of four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, including the potent 2.0-liter 16v Ecotec engine that produced 150 horsepower and the 2.5-liter V6 engine that boasted 170 horsepower. It also offered a limited-slip differential and a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. Despite its sporty aspirations, the Calibra also provided a surprisingly comfortable and practical interior with generous seating space for four passengers and a decent cargo area. It offered a range of features, including power steering, power windows, air conditioning, and an optional sunroof. The Calibra was a successful model for Opel, and it helped to elevate the brand's image while offering a compelling alternative to the established Japanese sports coupes of the day.
