The Chrysler Conquest, produced from 1988 to 1990, was a sporty two-door coupe that represented a unique chapter in Chrysler's history. It was not, in fact, a Chrysler creation at all. The Conquest was a rebadged Mitsubishi Starion, a collaboration born out of Chrysler's acquisition of a significant stake in Mitsubishi Motors in the early 1980s. The Conquest and Starion shared the same platform, powertrain, and overall design, with the primary difference being cosmetic changes to the exterior and interior. Chrysler's styling team gave the Conquest a more Americanized look with a distinctive front fascia featuring a prominent grille and redesigned headlamps. The interior also received a more upscale treatment with leather upholstery and wood trim, catering to the American market's tastes.

Under the hood, the Conquest packed a punch with a 2.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 175 horsepower in standard trim. A more powerful "Tsi" model was available, boasting a revised turbocharger and intercooler, resulting in a bump in horsepower to 190. Both trims featured a five-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic, with the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, giving the Conquest a sporty edge and handling capabilities that exceeded many of its contemporaries. Despite its relatively short production run, the Conquest gained a reputation for its sharp handling, comfortable interior, and unique styling. Though it may not have the iconic status of some of its American counterparts, the Conquest remains a testament to the collaborative efforts of Chrysler and Mitsubishi and a reminder of a time when bold styling and performance were key selling points in the American sports car market.
