The Subaru B9 Tribeca, also known as the Subaru B9 Tribeca, was a mid-size crossover SUV produced by Subaru from 2005 to 2014. It was the first Subaru to be designed specifically for the North American market and represented a departure from the company's traditional focus on compact and sporty vehicles. The Tribeca featured a unique and boldly designed exterior, with a distinctive hexagonal grille and a boxy, upright stance. It was powered by a 3.6-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, producing 256 horsepower, and was available with either a five-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. The Tribeca was equipped with symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD), a trademark feature of Subaru vehicles, providing superior handling and traction in various driving conditions. Despite its unique design and advanced technology, the Tribeca faced several challenges in the market. Its unconventional styling proved polarizing, and its performance and fuel economy did not quite match the expectations set by its rivals. The Tribeca's interior was also criticized for its lack of refinement and its dated design. Consequently, sales figures remained relatively low compared to other SUVs in its class. While it was a notable attempt by Subaru to enter the mid-size SUV segment, the Tribeca did not achieve the commercial success hoped for. It was discontinued in 2014, paving the way for the launch of the Subaru Ascent, which aimed to address the shortcomings of its predecessor and establish a stronger foothold in the growing SUV market.
