The Mercury Monterey is a full-size minivan that was produced by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company from 2004 to 2007. It shares its platform and underpinnings with the Ford Freestar, which was also produced during the same time period. The Monterey was a significant departure from its predecessor, the Villager, which was based on the Ford Windstar. The new Monterey was larger and more modern, featuring a more spacious and comfortable interior, a more powerful engine, and a more refined ride. It was designed to compete with other popular minivans of the time, such as the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Chrysler Town & Country. The Mercury Monterey was available in three trim levels: LX, SE, and Premier. The LX was the base trim, while the SE offered a more sporty appearance with upgraded wheels and tires, as well as a sport-tuned suspension. The Premier was the top-of-the-line trim, featuring leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a power sunroof, and other luxury amenities. The Monterey came equipped with a 3.9-liter V6 engine that produced 200 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. This engine was paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The Monterey also offered optional features such as a DVD entertainment system, a rearview camera, and a navigation system. The Monterey was praised for its spacious interior, comfortable ride, and value for money. It was a popular choice among families who needed a reliable and practical vehicle for hauling passengers and cargo. However, the Monterey was eventually discontinued in 2007, following the discontinuation of the Mercury brand.
