The BMW K1200 series, encompassing the K1200 and the K1200RS, was a compelling line of sport touring motorcycles produced by BMW Motorrad from 2004 to 2009. These high-performance machines combined the comfort and practicality of touring motorcycles with the agility and power of sport bikes. Featuring a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, 1157cc, inline four-cylinder engine, the K1200 series boasted impressive power delivery and smooth acceleration. The engine was renowned for its robust construction and efficient performance, producing approximately 163 hp (122 kW) and 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque. The K1200 model was a standard touring motorcycle, while the K1200RS, or "Roadster Sport," offered a more aggressive riding position and sporty features, including a semi-fairing, clip-on handlebars, and a single-seat tail section. The K1200 series incorporated numerous innovative features for its time, including BMW's proprietary Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA), a system that allowed riders to electronically adjust the suspension settings on the fly to match different riding conditions and preferences. Other notable features included a digital instrument panel, an electronically adjustable windscreen, and a comfortable, ergonomic riding position. Despite their performance and advanced features, the K1200 series was known for its high purchase price and maintenance costs, factors that ultimately contributed to their discontinuation in 2009. However, for riders who sought a powerful and capable sport touring motorcycle that could tackle both long-distance trips and spirited rides, the K1200 series remained a formidable choice.
