The Chrysler Imperial, a full-size luxury sedan produced by Chrysler Corporation from 1988 to 1993, marked a significant shift in the brand's direction. Replacing the previous generation Imperial, which was a rebadged Dodge Diplomat, the 1988 model year ushered in a new era of exclusivity and refinement. Built on the Chrysler E-body platform, the Imperial shared its underpinnings with the Dodge Diplomat and the Chrysler Fifth Avenue. However, it stood out with its distinctive styling, embracing a more opulent and stately design language. The Imperial's exterior featured a long, low profile, with a prominent grille, swept-back headlamps, and a luxurious wraparound rear window. Inside, the cabin was crafted with high-quality materials, including leather upholstery, walnut wood trim, and plush carpeting. Standard features included power windows, locks, and seats, cruise control, and a premium sound system.

While mechanically, the Imperial shared components with its more mass-market counterparts, its focus on comfort and luxury set it apart. Power came from a 3.3-liter V6 engine producing 132 horsepower. A 3.8-liter V6 engine with 150 horsepower was also offered, providing increased performance. The Imperial was well-equipped with a variety of safety features, including anti-lock brakes (ABS), driver and passenger airbags, and a rigid passenger compartment. Despite its luxurious amenities, the Imperial faced challenges in the competitive luxury car market. Sales lagged behind its rivals, and it was discontinued after the 1993 model year. Nevertheless, the Chrysler Imperial of 1988-1993 remains a notable chapter in the brand's history, representing a period of ambitious design and a desire to compete in the premium segment.
