The Citroën GS and GSA were compact cars produced by the French automaker Citroën from 1970 to 1986. The GS, launched in 1970, was a revolutionary car for its time, featuring a sleek, aerodynamic design, a hydropneumatic suspension system, and a front-wheel drive layout. It was praised for its handling, ride comfort, and fuel efficiency, earning the prestigious European Car of the Year award in 1971. The GS offered a range of 1.0 and 1.2-liter engines, with the top-of-the-line model receiving a larger 1.3-liter motor in 1974. Despite its success, the GS's design was beginning to show its age by the late 1970s, with its small interior space and limited headroom becoming prominent drawbacks. To address these shortcomings, Citroën launched the GSA (Grande Série A) in 1979. Essentially a facelifted GS, the GSA featured a slightly larger body, with revised front and rear styling, incorporating larger bumpers for improved crash safety. The GSA also received a more spacious interior, improved sound insulation, and a more powerful engine lineup. While the original GS was discontinued in 1986, the GSA continued production until 1986, with a total of 1,152,000 GS and GSA models produced. Both the GS and GSA were known for their distinctive styling, comfortable ride, and innovative technology, making them significant contributions to Citroën's legacy. A full service repair manual for the Citroën GS and GSA from 1982 would be an essential resource for owners and mechanics, providing detailed information on maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting procedures for these classic cars.
