The Daihatsu Fourtrak, also known as the Rocky in some markets, was a compact SUV produced by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu from 1984 to 1992. The Fourtrak was launched as a successor to the Daihatsu S500/S510 series, offering a more refined and capable off-road experience. The F70 generation, launched in 1984, featured a boxy design with a rugged, utilitarian aesthetic. It came equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, available in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged versions, paired with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The F70 was known for its off-road capability, thanks to its high ground clearance, locking differentials, and optional 4WD system. Later, the F75 and F77 models were introduced, offering minor styling updates and improved interior amenities. The F75, launched in 1988, received a more modern front fascia with a wider grille and integrated headlights. The F77, introduced in 1990, featured a more rounded and aerodynamic design with a revised rear end. The Fourtrak's popularity was primarily driven by its affordability, versatility, and impressive off-road prowess. It was often used as a capable work vehicle or a reliable companion for outdoor adventures. Despite its success, the Fourtrak was discontinued in 1992, replaced by the Daihatsu Terios, a smaller and more refined SUV. The Daihatsu Fourtrak holds a special place in automotive history as a pioneering compact off-roader that introduced many to the world of adventure driving.
