The Daihatsu Materia is a compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) that was produced by Japanese automaker Daihatsu from 2006 to 2013. Positioned as a stylish and practical alternative to traditional minivans, the Materia aimed to offer a comfortable and spacious interior, coupled with fuel-efficient performance. It shared its platform with the Toyota bB and the Subaru Stella, with its boxy design featuring a high roofline, large windows, and a distinctive front grille. Inside, the Materia boasted a flexible seating configuration, allowing for ample passenger and cargo space. Its interior was designed with practical features, including multiple storage compartments and comfortable seating for five occupants.
The Daihatsu Materia was offered with a choice of two petrol engines: a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a larger 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Both engines were known for their fuel efficiency and reliability, while the combination of front-wheel drive and a smooth-shifting automatic transmission provided a comfortable and responsive driving experience. Although primarily marketed for the domestic Japanese market, the Materia was also offered in limited numbers in other Asian countries. It was known for its practicality and versatility, making it a popular choice for young families and city commuters seeking a spacious and fuel-efficient vehicle. Despite its popularity, Daihatsu discontinued production of the Materia in 2013, marking the end of a unique and distinctive MPV model.
