The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII, better known as the Evo VII, is a high-performance sports sedan that was produced by Mitsubishi Motors from 2001 to 2003. It was the seventh generation of the Lancer Evolution, a series of rally-homologated performance cars that were designed to compete in the World Rally Championship. The Evo VII built upon the successful formula of its predecessors, incorporating a number of significant improvements and refinements. These included a wider front track, a new front bumper with larger air intakes, a revised rear wing, a more powerful engine, and an updated suspension system. While retaining the iconic 2.0L turbocharged 4G63 engine, the Evo VII saw an increase in power to 271 hp (202 kW) and 279 lb⋅ft (378 N⋅m) of torque, thanks to a new turbocharger, intercooler, and intake manifold. The Evo VII's handling was also significantly improved thanks to its wider track, revised suspension geometry, and the addition of a new active yaw control system (AYC) that helped to manage the car's handling under cornering. The AYC system used a hydraulic pump to adjust the torque distribution between the rear wheels, allowing the car to rotate more smoothly through corners. The Evo VII was a highly successful car, winning numerous rallies and championships around the world. It was praised for its performance, handling, and overall driving experience. However, the Evo VII also had its share of drawbacks. Many owners found the car's suspension to be very stiff, and the interior was somewhat spartan. The Evo VII's notoriously stiff suspension made it difficult to drive on rough roads, and the interior lacked many of the creature comforts found in more luxurious cars. Despite these shortcomings, the Evo VII is a legendary car that remains highly sought after by enthusiasts today.
