The ROVER 25 and MG ZR were compact cars produced by the British automotive manufacturer Rover Group, later owned by BMW, from 1995 to 2005. The ROVER 25 was the successor to the Rover 200 series, and it was positioned as a more affordable and practical option in the small family car segment. The MG ZR, on the other hand, was a sporty derivative of the ROVER 25, intended to appeal to younger buyers. Both models shared a common platform, powertrains, and many interior components, but the MG ZR featured a bolder exterior design with sportier suspension and engine tuning. The ROVER 25 and MG ZR were offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines, including the 1.1, 1.4, 1.6, and 1.8-liter petrol units, as well as the 2.0-liter diesel. The vehicles featured a front-wheel drive layout and were available in various body styles, including a three-door hatchback, a five-door hatchback, and a saloon. Both cars were praised for their comfortable ride, spacious interior, and good handling characteristics. Despite this, the models faced increasing competition from other manufacturers in the segment, and production eventually ceased in 2005 following Rover Group's financial difficulties and subsequent sale to the Chinese company Nanjing Automobile Group.
